About Us
Established in 1895, Asakusa Imahan is a historic culinary landmark located in the heart of Kokusai Street in Asakusa, downtown Tokyo. Our restaurant specializes in serving premium Wagyu beef prepared in traditional Sukiyaki and Shabu-shabu styles, allowing you to savor each bite with the perfect blend of flavors from our signature hot broth. Our crowning glory is the exquisite Kobe beef, selectively sourced from our trusted network of contracted farmers. With a legacy spanning over a century, we pride ourselves on upholding the spirit of omotenashi, the cherished values of Japanese hospitality.
Kokusai Street Head Restaurant
The Kokusai Street Head Restaurant has a rich history dating back to 1928, originally built during the post-Great Kanto Earthquake era. After extensive renovations, the restaurant made a grand reopening on October 9th, 2008.
While preserving the inherent beauty of its original architecture, the renovated restaurant now offers an array of dining room styles tailored to diverse occasions. Our private dining rooms have built-in sunken kotatsu seating, ideal for intimate or formal gatherings, allowing guests to experience the traditional Japanese dining style. For a more communal experience, our spacious open-style seating area features Japanese-style booths, recreating the lively and welcoming atmosphere of downtown Asakusa.
Step through our doors and immerse yourself in a world of culinary excellence, where tradition meets modern sophistication—a celebration of the finest flavors Japan has to offer.

A Message from Masaki Ogawa
Executive Chef, Kokusai Head Street Head Restaurant
It is both a profound honor and an exhilarating challenge to uphold the culinary traditions that have distinguished our establishment for over 120 years, while simultaneously pushing culinary boundaries.
Every day, we dedicate ourselves to providing our esteemed guests with cuisine and service of the highest caliber. Our commitment to excellence extends far beyond procuring the freshest ingredients and refining culinary techniques. We approach each dish with meticulous attention to detail, carefully orchestrating flavors, textures, and colors to ensure every meal is as visually stunning as it is delicious.
We derive the greatest satisfaction from the sincere appreciation expressed by our guests. This pursuit of culinary perfection is our way of honoring Asakusa Imahan’s rich heritage.
Each day in our kitchen presents new opportunities for growth and learning. We embrace these challenges by balancing deep respect for our time-honored traditions with a spirit of innovation, allowing our cuisine to remain timeless and exciting.
Our Commitment to Quality Ingredients
Kuroge Wagyu Beef (Japanese Black Beef)
Since 1895, Asakusa Imahan has been committed to serving only the finest beef. Our expert buyers scour Japan for premium Kuroge Wagyu, focusing exclusively on beef from female cattle. Each cut is meticulously selected to meet our exacting standards.
Kobe Beef
Asakusa Imahan’s Kobe beef, sourced exclusively from female cattle, is renowned for its exceptional marbling. This intricate network of fat melts in your mouth due to its remarkably low melting point. The finely textured, delicately sweet lean meat blends seamlessly with the rich, aromatic fat.
Vegetables
Asakusa Imahan’s sukiyaki features the legendary "Senju Negi," a premium green onion variety hailed as the finest of its kind. We pair this with hearty shiitake mushrooms, selected for their robust flavor and meaty texture that complement our rich sukiyaki broth perfectly. At Asakusa Imahan, we take pride in sourcing each ingredient with utmost care, ensuring that every component of our sukiyaki and shabu-shabu dishes meets our standard of excellence.
- Asakusa Imahan is a certified dealer of Kobe beef (Certification Registration Number: 483). Additionally, we have exclusive contracts with two farms: Taniguchi Farm (Shiso City, Hyogo Prefecture) and Morimoto Farm (Sayo Town, Hyogo Prefecture).
- We also offer award-winning Kobe beef from the Kobe Beef Carcass Competition.
